4 Reasons to Work Out with a Partner

Working out with a partner isn’t a perfect situation all the time. But it definitely has it’s perks. Here are 4 main reasons why having a partner to hit the gym with makes for a better workout experience:

1. Motivation, Multiplied

A workout partner can hold you accountable and encourage you. Sometimes we just don’t feel like going to work out and we find any excuse not to. But having a workout partner can encourage you, motivate you, and even push you. And we all need a push sometimes. Knowing that they are counting on us to get their workout in too gives an added level of accountability that is sometimes all we need to get out the door.

2. Added Variety

Having a gym friend can mean an introduction to new workout methods or exercises. We sometimes get into a rut at the gym, doing the same old things all the time…bench press…squats…pushups…crunches…repeat… Sound familiar? Two minds working to be creative in the gym is better than one. Or, one friend may be a little more adventurous than the other, urging the other to try that new yoga class, or see what the kettlebell craze is all about. It’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new!

3. Spotting

We all have used the excuse that we shouldn’t lift as heavy as we’d like to because we don’t have a spotter. Well, if you have a workout partner, you always have someone on hand to remove that excuse. You can perform more lifts and push yourself a bit more, knowing there is someone there to help keep you safe. 4. Misery Loves Company

It’s weird how we all seem to like a little bit of (the good kind of) pain when we are working out. And the old saying that misery loves company applies in the gym, too. There’s something comforting about knowing that another person is going through the same, tough workout as you are and hating / loving it the whole time.
